If 2.2 is a GPA, mitigating circumstances (do you even know what mitigating means? It’s a legal term…) won’t do you any good. I have a BS in Paralegal studies, and what paralegals do will depend on the type of firm. The firm I worked at I had to answer the phones (all 22 lines), sort mail, type RPDs and interrogatories, and do a lot of scheduling. No research and no writing. That’s why I left. I didn’t pay $30k to answer the phone. There isn’t anything wrong with answering the phones…if you work at a small firm or a solo then you will probably answer the phone, too. You need to go to the community college or a business college and take classes. Once you are done, sit for a NALA exam to get voluntary certification. Do some research on what firms you are interested in, areas of law, and what paralegals are relegated to doing in your state.

I’m in the same boat but I am paralegal and it’s still hard to get a training contract with paralegal experience. I wouldn’t resign if I were you I would try to look for positions elsewhere whilst earning some money. I don’t know what field your interested in but we had a secretary who moved on to be a paralegal because she was sending off her CV so it can happen. Good luck!
