How long should a wound be covered after the sutures are removed?

It’s depends on where this cut is located. If it’s on your face, then the skin can use the extra protection for a few days more. Facial sutures are removed early to limit scarring on the face, but the cut itself is not completely healed. If the sutures are elsewhere, and were in place for 5-6 days, then you can leave the bandage off unless the spot will be rubbed by clothing. In that case, you want to keep the bandaid until the surface skin is completely healed and you have a nice smooth pink scar with no tenderness. You don’t need to use any special cream for healing purposes, although vitamin E oil is useful if you like. In that case, healing will or should be fairly complete after about 2-3 weeks following the original cut. Skin cells live about that long, and by that time you should have all new ones in the area.
