How long must a hospital keep records of a patients implant?

I have an Implanted Cardioverter Defibrilator. It has a serial number and I presume that this information will be on my medical records for as long as I`m alive. I also have a card with this information on it that I have to carry about, so I also have a record of its serial number, the type and make, the doctor who implanted it, the hospital where the procedure was carried out and the date on which it was carried out.
