At the time Class C waste is received and disposed of, it is either in an inherently stable waste form (e.g., irradiated stainless steel) or it is packaged in a High Integrity Container. The waste form and/or container prevent any release of radioactivity at the time of disposal. When disposed, Class C waste is also buried deeper than Class B waste to ensure that the waste will not be contacted in the event that an intruder constructs a house on the site. The disposal facility is designed, sited, and constructed to prevent risks to the environment including impacts on water, air and wildlife.
