Hello Basically a degree in veterinary science/medicine (and registration as a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons at http://www.rcvs.org.uk/ or Veterinary Council of Ireland at http://www.vci.ie/ is required to practise as a veterinary surgeon in the UK and EU. The degree course lasts five years (six at Cambridge). Entry is highly competitive for veterinary science/medicine; generally good A-level grades are necessary (chemistry is usually required, often with biology, physics or mathematics) but check out admissions criteria with individual universities. Some universities offer an additional pre-degree year for those students who do not have the necessary grades or subjects. New graduates must then register with the RCVS before they can practise and during their first year of practice, they must complete the RCVS Professional Development requirements. Six UK universitie
