How long is the virus transmittable or viable in humans (i.e. for transmission through breast milk or blood donation)?
A. A person would be infectious during the period of viremia, which probably persists no longer than a few days. Thus, breast milk or blood would have to be collected in this small window to potentially be infectious. Viable virus has been isolated out of frozen plasma that was in storage more than one month.
