The curriculum varies by region. However, in general, the training is conducted over a two or three day period and involves both classroom instruction and group work.

Our training is a three phase process. First, you will attend an 8-week training course at the Columbia Police Department called Basic Candidate School. After you complete this you will attend the state police academy for 9-weeks. When you graduate from the state academy you will ride with a field training officer for 3 months for on-the-job training. After you complete this you will be considered a solo police officer.
