How long is the skip protection provided by the iPod?
The iPod (1st Generation), introduced October 23, 2001 and discontinued July 17, 2002, and iPod (2nd Generation), introduced July 17, 2002 and discontinued April 28, 2003, both provide 20 minutes of skip protection. The discontinued iPod (3rd Generation), iPod (4th Generation), iPod U2 Special Edition, iPod mini, and iPod mini (2nd Generation) all provide 25 minutes of skip protection. Interestingly, the iPod photo (30 GB), iPod photo/Color (40 GB, 60 GB), iPod “Color” (20.0 GB), iPod U2 Special Edition “Color”, all discontinued, reduce skip protection to 17 minutes, but provides improved battery life. The iPod shuffle, introduced January 11, 2005, and iPod nano, introduced September 7, 2005, both use solid-state Flash Memory, and consequently, cannot skip. Unfortunately, Apple did not provide information on the skip protection provided by the iPod 5G/video, introduced October 12, 2005, but one could estimate that it is similar to previous models with color screens.
