There are a couple of options for you. To become a speech pathologist, you would need an undergraduate degree in speech and hearing science (or hearing and speech science… depending on the school). You would then need a master’s degree in speech-language pathology. For me, it was 4 years of undergrad and 2 years of grad school. School had it’s pros and cons, but I’m very happy I did it. I absolutely love being a speech therapist! There is a high demand for speech paths, so you are pretty much guaranteed a job almost anywhere. Another option is to become a speech assistant. You can find associate degree (2 years) or bachelor degree (4 years) programs for this. Speech assistants can not do asssessments and have to be supervised by speech pathologists, but they do therapy and get to work directly with clients/patients/students.
