How long is the mackinac bridge in Michigan?
The Mighty Mac is 5 miles long. Didn’t even have to look that one up! I’ve never walked across it, but every Labor Day that is the tradition, along with our Governor and lots of other people. It’s the only day all year when people are allowed to walk across it. There is also a run this year. The Mackinac Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere with 7,400 feet of roadway suspended in the air over the straits of Mackinac. I’ve always thought it was funny that they have people stationed there who will drive you and your car across the bridge, if you are too afraid to do it. And I do remember hearing of at least one small car that blew off it! We were just there last fall, when we drove up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It’s a beautiful bridge in a beautiful area, with the historic Fort Michilimackinaw, Mackinaw City, an old lighthouse, and so much more. A very historical area for those who enjoy that kind of thing.
