How long is the formal presentation to the judges?
Each team is allowed 15 minutes to present their plan to the judges. In most situations, however, you have less time so you really need to hone your elevator pitch (1-2 minutes). In the presentation, it is advisable to have 10-15-30 rule—10 slides, 15 minutes, and 30-font. Don’t dwell too long on the industry analysis, but be ready to cover your sales potential and financial projections succinctly. If you spend 10 minutes on the projections and only 5 minutes on your product, then you probably have bored them. Plan to spend about 5 minutes each on your product, 5 minutes on your potential sales based on market demand and competition level, and 5 minutes on financials. It is always advisable to have a prototype of your product or design drawings of your new product, if possible. Be prepared for more in-depth questions on your distribution, production, and value-added processes to show your differential advantage.
