How long is H1B Visa good for?
An employee can maintain his or her H1B status for a maximum continuous period of six years. Once this visa expires, they must leave and remain outside the U.S. for one year before returning and being considered for employment under the auspices of H1B program again. (However, in certain circumstances, foreign workers with labor certification applications or immigrant visa petitions in process may be able to extend their H1B status in one year increments beyond the normal six-year limitation.) During this six year period, the employee may also apply for a Green Card. If the application process is completed by the time the H1B visa expires, they will be able to stay in this country as an immigrant worker and even pursue citizenship.
