Look at the face of the money order when you get it. It will more than likely say how long it is valid for. What kind of money order it is (a bank, the post office, etc.) will help determine where it can be cashed. Did you mention Chase bank because you have an account there? If so, call them and ask if they can help you. You should definitely look into getting some valid ID. A birth certificate does not cut it. Most DMVs offer ID for non-drivers and it would be very helpful for you to have this. You would need some sort of ID to get a job and obviously, in situations like this. Check your state’s DMV website to see if this is something they offer. If it is, you should get one ASAP. Good luck.

Checks are valid 6 months, cashier checks for 1 year. Sometimes banks cash them anyway after they expire though. US Post Office MOs are valid forever. For banks, and other countries, call the bank or PO and ask.
