How long is a legal separation valid?
Once the Court enters a decree of legal separation, it is effective for at least six months. After that period of time, either party can request that the legal separation be converted to a decree of dissolution of marriage even if the other party objects. If neither party requests a conversion, the legal separation will remain in effect indefinitely.
