HOW LONG IS A CLEARANCE VALID?
Generally a clearance will be valid for 15 years for Confidential clearances; 10 years for Secret clearances; and, 5 years for Top Secret clearances and Special Access Programs such as SCI. But, a clearance will expire either at the end of such a time period or not later than 2 years after leaving the position of employment that requires the clearance, whichever first occurs. Finally, it must always be remembered that a clearance can be reviewed at any time, for any reason, or no reason at all.
