How long have pandas been in existence?
Pandas have been on Earth for over 3 million years. They are called “living fossils” because many species that coexisted with pandas in the past, such as the stegodon (a large tusked elephant) and Chinese rhinos, are already extinct. The giant panda was unknown in the Western world until 1869 when its skin was found by Pere David, a French missionary.
