Topical thrombin hemostats have been used for more than 60 years and are currently used in more than 1 million medical and surgical procedures annually.1 The use of topical bovine thrombin became widespread in the United States after receiving US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in the late 1970s.1 Thrombin-JMI® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1995.
