How long has the hotel been in existence?
The site of the resort was once a vast coconut estate where over thirty years ago a St. Lucian planter built his family home. Shortly thereafter the house was extended to include twenty bedrooms catering to the transient commercial traveller. It was then called the Malabar Beach Hotel. Over the years, the hotel grew and in 1983 the family took a franchise with the Couples chain of resorts. The hotel then became the first all-inclusive resort on the island. In 1993, the franchise ended and the resort reverted to the direct leadership of the family once again and the world’s first boutique hotel for couples, Rendezvous, was born.
