How long has ritual abuse occurred?
Ritual abuse has occurred as early back as the Mesopotamian mysterious religions. We know from archeological studies that these ancient cultures practiced occult and ritual forms of worship by the relics left behind. One such relic, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, dates back to circa 3500 BC. We know that Abraham’s father, Terah, from the land of Ur, was a worshipper false gods (Joshua 24:2). Historically we know that Ur was a Sumerian city that worshipped the moon god (Nanna/Sin) (Wilson, n.d., Moon Worship section, para. 2 & 3). The Sumerian priests performed sacrifices to the moon gods and male and female prostitutes were used in fertility rites (Wilson, n.d., Moon Worship section, para. 4). These rites and sacrifices involved forms of ritual abuse. It is impossible to give an exact date of when ritual abuse first occurred, but given the fact that man’s heart has not changed since the dawn of time, it is possible that ritual abuse may have occurred as early as during the time period
