Penteo started as a software experiment in 2001, and took about 5 years to present. It received its first public demo at the 2005 Surround Expo in Beverly Hills. In 2006, Penteo partnered with Telos/Axia to prototype surround broadcasting at digital radio station WZLX-HD in Boston, which is on the air everyday, broadcasting to test receivers. Penteo itself continues to evolve constantly, with new, faster, and more transparent code.
