How long has NOMADS and University of Minnesota been offering Online Classroom Expeditions as educational opportunities for students and teachers?
At NOMADS Adventure & Education, we have been involved with various educational programs that combine adventure with classroom education for the past 10 years. Beginning in 1992, we worked with world renowned explorer, educator and Expedition Leader of Arctic Transect 2004 : Will Steger, as part of highly acclaimed International Arctic Project (1991-95) which brought global awareness to the importance of Arctic Regions. By many considered to be the first Online Education program as we began sending “reports” from the trail, consisting of less than 10 words, a 2 by 4 ft computer and powered by a hand-cranked generator! A natural next step, our founders – Paul Pregont & Mille Porsild – incorporated NOMADS Adventure & Education, Inc. in 1996. Combining powerful Polar Huskies with passion for education, cultural understanding and the outdoors, our attention is focused on creating unique annual online educational programs that integrate wilderness expeditions as tools for learning.
