How long has New York Community Bank been serving customers?
New York Community Bank has been serving customers for more than 14 decades, operating under the name Queens County Savings Bank until December 15, 2000. The Bank was established on April 14, 1859 by four prominent residents of the town of Flushing, and grew at a modest pace to 14 branches as of the end of 1999. On December 15, 2000, the Bank’s name was changed to New York Community Bank to better reflect the expansion of the franchise beyond Queens County–the result of merger transactions and, to a lesser extent, de novo growth. Today the Bank’s 178 locations serve customers in the New York City boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island; and Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties in New York; and the New Jersey counties of Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Union.
