How long has National-Louis been at the Evanston campus?
In February 1926, National-Louis University moved to the current Evanston campus after being based in Chicago for 40 years. As soon as Edna Dean Baker took office as National-Louis University’s second president in 1920, she recognized the institution’s need for a site larger than its home at 2944 South Michigan Avenue. The very success of that campus contributed to the move from it, as overcrowded classrooms, dorms and offices soon became the norm. Miss Baker and the governing board searched for a new site that would accommodate a classroom building, a demonstration school, a dormitory and a playground area, and meet the University’s needs for at least 25 years. After a search similar to that which the university just completed, Miss Baker announced the decision to move to 2840 Sheridan Road in Evanston.
