In 2005, the Martin County Pioneer Lacrosse Organization (MCPL) was organized by a group of volunteer parents with the support of the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department to run youth programs for children up through 8th grade. The MCPL competes against similar community-based programs in nearby communities. The MCPL youth program has grown exponentially from 120 boys and girls in 2005 to more than 300 players in 2009.
