Are you referring to damage, or richter scale, or deaths? The link below identifies some major earthquakes that have hit the US recently and in the past. There was a 6.5 earthquake in 2003, but it did no damage and caused no deaths. There was a huge 7.9 earthquake in 2002, but it was in a remote region of Alaska, and so did little damage and caused no deaths. The Northridge earthquake in 1994 caused billions of dollars in damage, many deaths, and interrupted the world series. But it was only a 6.5. That is the most recent damaging earthquake to strike the US. If you need bigger earthquakes, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was an 8.3, and most of the town either collapsed or burned to the ground. Alaska had an 8.4 earthquake in 1964 that caused a tidal wave. The two largest US earthquakes happened in South Carolina in 1886 and in Missouri in 1811. Both were 8.5. I hope this helps.
