How long has Gemba been around?
How did Gemba get started? The two founders are sons of American missionaries to Japan. Gemba’s founders were born in Japan and lived there 18 years and are fluent in Japanese and English. They worked with the Shingijutsu consultants and learned kaizen and Lean. They started Gemba to help teach and spread Kaizen through training, consulting, trips to Japan, and by developing training materials. How does Gemba define Lean? Lean for us is TPS. We aim to implement the Toyota Production System as closely as possible, in as many places as we can.
