How long does the second stage of labor usually last?
The length of the second stage is dependent on a number of factors: the size of the baby, the size of your pelvis, how much you push during contractions and the strength of the contractions themselves. The average length of the second stage in first time mothers is 1 hour but varies between 5 minutes and two hours. For a multiparous mother it averages 20 minutes, although this varies between a single push (1 minute) to 1 hour.
