How long does the pupal stage last, whilst the butterfly is in its chrysalis?
A butterfly usually spends about eight to 14 days in the chrysalis it has spun for itself. However, if your butterfly larvae don’t get enough bright light in their last few days before they enter the chrysalis, they may never come out. Lack of light sends the larvae into a type of hibernation, where they will stay for around three months. What are they waiting for? Warmer weather and more light! To ensure that your butterflies think it’s spring or summer all year round, make sure that they’re close to a window or a light in the colder months.
