Twenty four hours. The intensity of the dye effect is determined by several factors. The oiliness and moisture condition of the skin at the time of exposure will affect absorption. The exposure duration is another factor; the longer the exposure, the deeper the absorption. Typical altercations should allow several minutes of exposure since decontamination requires special materials and adequate washing facilities. One test involved only eight seconds of exposure followed immediately with forty-five minutes of continuous rinsing with water. The result was a vivid baby pink coloration lasting over eighteen hours.
