The HEPA filter should last one year under normal use. A flashing LED light appears on the foot switch when it is time to change the filter. Also a pre-filter, which is a very thin material screen on top of the HEPA filter, traps the larger particles before they get to the HEPA. It is recommended that you change the pre-filter quarterly. Four pre-filters come with each HEPA filter kit.
