How long does the backup take?
Backups are fast. Our technology transmits only the changed portions of changed files during each backup session. Exactly how long that takes depends on the size of your backup, speed of your Internet connection, and the amount of changed data. Because the initial backup requires transmission of all data, it takes the longest and may require multiple sessions to complete. The service will “chip away” at the initial backup until completed with no user intervention required. After the initial backup is complete, nightly backups are significantly smaller than tape-based systems and result in a much more efficient and faster backup.
A. The initial backup can take anything from a few minutes to half a day, depending on the amount of data on your PC and the speed of your internet connection. This is because of the time it takes to send data via an ADSL connection. So if your data size is more than 2GB, we recommend you call us as we have several options you may wish to take advantage of. For subsequent daily backups, only new or changed information needs to be transmitted via ADSL. This typically accounts for less than 2% of your data, so these backups usually take very little time at all – often just a few minutes. You might notice a slight change in your PC’s processing speed while the backup is taking place, but that’s all.
