How long does the approval process take?
Once all necessary paperwork is received, most accounts are approved in an average of 72 hours (not weekends and holidays). On occasion it can be done in the same day or if there are complications it can take a number of days longer until problems are resolved. Once approved, we will immediately inform you of your acceptance and deliver the terminal equipment or software of your choosing. **Please be aware that missing/inaccurate/incomplete or false information is the leading cause of applications being delayed from being approved.
It generally takes us about a week to contact your references, do your phone interview, recruit a Home Visit volunteer, schedule the home visit, and finalize the decision-making. Sometimes we can finish more quickly than that–in just a couple of days–if we can reach your references quickly and if you live in an area where we already have an experienced Home Visit volunteer. Sometimes, though, it can take 2 weeks or even longer if we run into problems. You can help minimize the time the processing takes by: ensuring that your application is complete and accurate; providing alternative phone numbers for yourself and your references; ensuring your references are not on vacation or otherwise unavailable; letting your references know in advance that we will be calling and urging them to take/return the calls; being flexible when scheduling the home visit; and communicating candidly with the dog’s fosterparent to help them get to know you and your household.
Review and investigation of the license application can take up to forty five days for a General Business License and ninety days for a Special Business License. Upon approval, license(s) will be mailed to the applicant. If a license is denied, the applicant will receive written notice and be provided an opportunity to appeal the decision.
