How long does recovery from hip replacement surgery take?
My under-50, physically fit husband had it done Nov. 2006, and was back to work in about 2 weeks as a police officer. Hips are easier than knees, I’ve heard. Based on my experience with him, I would have them both done at the same time, if possible, and get it over with. He now regrets putting it off for so long. I am amazed at how quickly he has recovered and he does just about everything he did before. There are some rules, though, and I think snowboarding so soon might be pushing it–but next year you should be able to. I think my husband is supposed to be careful for 3 months, as during that time you have a higher chance of dislocating the hip(s). And you DON’T want to do that, as it can really mess you up for future repairs. He took it easy I think for less than a month, total. He used crutches for stability for maybe 3 weeks, then has walked completely unaided since then. He even rode his bicycle in December (surgery was Nov. 14th). He is a bit of a martyr, though, and had a mind
