How long does it typically take to get off-campus space once a request has been made?
This is a difficult question, depending on the availability of space at the time the request is made. Sometimes, the right amount of space is available in the right part of town, and a deal can be completed in as little as two-three months. More often, the search for space can take several months, or can even prove to be impossible. Once space is identified, it can take several months to negotiate the lease agreement, especially in a tight market where landlords are less willing to accept the University’s standard form lease. The space also has to meet UC’s seismic safety policy, ADA, and fire & life safety requirements, which makes some buildings close to campus unacceptable for UC to lease.
