How long does it take to transcribe 1 hour of recorded speech?
In general, we speak 3/4 times faster than even the most experienced typist can type. Therefore, the industry standard allows ONE hour to transcribe 15 minutes of clearly recorded speech. Consequently, a ONE hour recorded audio file could take 3/4 hours to transcribe. An equal period of time of the recording duration should be allowed for proof-reading, printing, and posting the transcription, (if these are requirements). So accordingly, a clear recording of an hour in length could require 3 – 4 hours work. A longer time period would be needed if the recording is very unclear. However, we will inform you asap if the recordings are proving difficult – so as to prevent you incurring additional charges.
