How long does it take to train to be a plumber?

In all parts of the UK it takes 3 years & government funding is available for proper training – by that I mean through an employer. Just now to be fully qualified you must gain NVQ 3 (SVQ 3 in Scotland) as well as your grading card which is the card given to you by the assessment board to prove to clients you are a qualified plumber. The only route just now in the UK to get the full NVQ/SVQ 3 is through an apprenticeship scheme, in other words you need to get taken on by an employer who will train you or send you to college. There are courses abailable at collleges but these will only train you part way or only be available to you if you are employed. The reason is you need practical experience as well as theory. There are part time/distance learning/intensive courses out there such as train for trades & the like but these wont train you to the full level 3 needed & so far I’ve not heard of any that’ll get you your grading card.
