How long does it take to train a dog to bark at the door when they have to use the bathroom?
I can’t imagine it would take long, but might i suggest a different signal? My mom’s dog will bark at the door if people are coming up the driveway, if people are on the porch, if there are pheasants or deer out, if the wind is making odd noises, and for no discernible reason. Some people have trained their dogs to ring a little bell by the door; my dog would just stare at me until I asked if she wanted outside. If he barks a lot, and you open the door every time he barks, he’ll probably catch on quick. if he’s not a barker already, you might have to teach him “speak” and then start opening the door when he does it.
