How long does it take to repair the damage of smoking after quiting?
It depends a lot on how heavy the smoker was and how long they smoked. I’ll try to answer the question assuming the smoker smoked for at least ten years.: If they were a light smoker (less than half a pack a day), the body would be able to rid itself of the tar and toxins in the lungs in less than two years, I believe. Moderate smokers (more than half a pack a day) would require more time for their lungs to repair themselves, about 4 years or more. Hardcore smokers (more than a pack per day) would need seven or more years to fully rid their bodies of the heavy intake of toxins and potential carcinogens, assuming they didn’t acquire some form of smoker’s cancer.
