How long does it take to process a claim? What does a department do if a piece of equipment is critical to the operation of the department?
Claims less than $5,000 can usually be processed in 10 working days if complete information is received. Larger claims or more complex claims obviously will take longer. If a piece of equipment is absolutely necessary, the department can purchase this equipment while the claim is being processed and then request that any payment approved by the Office of Risk Management be made to the department filing the claim. Any difference in the cost of the equipment and the amount of the claim approval, however, is the responsibility of the department filing the claim.
