How long does it take to potty train a puppy?

0

It takes a VERY long time to potty train a puppy… However to housebreak a puppy takes anywhere from a week to a couple months. The next time you catch him ‘going potty’ inside the house say ‘bad dog’ and take him outside immediately (trail of pee or not) and put him where you’d like him to go. Once you put him down wait about 2 seconds and then lavish him with praise. Soon he’ll learn what behavior gets what reaction.

It totally depends on whether you are home all day or not. How old is your puppy? The easiest rule of thumb is that when your puppy has eaten or had a drink, take him/her straight outside, cos they are only little, they can’t hold it for very long, tell them to go wee or do their jobs and if they do it, praise them like crazy. Same applies when they have just woken up, take them straight outside. Same goes if they have an accident indoors, you have to scold them, don’t go rubbing its nose in it, it doesn’t work. The ideal thing for indoors is to invest in some puppy pads, they are totally waterproof on the one side and start by training the puppy to go on that, only if it is raining outside, otherwise always take it outside. Don’t put the pads everywhere, just use one or two, best put nearest the exits. It does take a little time, I had two westie pups in March and in fairness by the time they were 14 weeks they were totally house trained, but then I am at home all day, so it was easie

Every puppy is different so there isn’t a set time when she will be potty trained. The best way to potty train a dog is when you are able, keep a leash attached to the dogs collar and keep the other end attached to you. So if you see him sniffing to find a spot or it appears he has to go you can take him out. When you are not able to be attached put the puppy in its crate a dog will naturally not want to use the bathroom where they sleep. Feed your puppy twice a day and take the puppy outside after it is done eating, sleeping or playing. Take your dog out every two hours. If you catch your dog in the action of peeing or pooping clap your hands and say no in a firm voice then take him directly outside and if he goes to the bathroom or just sniffs praise him. This method really works.
