How long does it take to get copies of past federal tax returns?
Better extend your closing date if you need actual copies of the returns as the IRS typically takes 6 weeks to provide actual copies of returns. For proof of income for a mortgage I’ve never known a lender that would not accept an IRS transcript though. You can have that in 10 days or less and there is no cost. Or you can get it upon request while you wait at any local IRS office with a Customer Service counter.
