In general, not long at all. After you have been diagnosed with a skin cancer, your dermatologist will refer you to our office. When you call our office, we will schedule you for a consultation visit. This can nearly always be done within one week of your phone call. This visit gives us the opportunity to meet you and learn a little bit more about your cancer. Measurements of the cancer are taken, and after evaluating the cancer, we are able to determine how and when the Mohs surgery should be scheduled. With some cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma, the timing can be fairly flexible given their slow rate of growth. Other cancers may need to be scheduled sooner if they are thought to be more aggressive. We also use the consultation visit to discuss your schedule, to try to find a time that is good for you to have the surgery done. We are usually flexible, and can almost always accommodate your schedule.
