How long does it take to get a black belt in Judo?
It depends on how long you practice those four times a week. But generally speaking, about an hour each time. It will take you about one to two years if you practice outside of class and if you work hard. As anything in life, if you want it, you have to work hard to get it. A black belt won’t just be handed to you if you’re at a school that makes you earn your belts rather than just pay for them. About competition, I’m not in a competition martial art, I’m in a self-defense oriented one (Combat Hapkido) but based upon what I know, you can still compete and be great. Chuck Norris wasn’t competing until he got out of the Air-Force. He was stationed in Korea and learned Tang-So-Do, a Korean form of Karate. In the mid 60’s he came back to the United States and entered many Karate competitions, and eventually being a several time world Karate champion. So don’t worry about age and competition, all you have to do is work hard and you will succeed.
