If you have a high speed connection with low latency and no rate limiting, encapsulating data with Vanish should be pretty quick, albeit not instantaneous. Our Vanish prototype also takes steps to hide the time to encapsulate data with Vanish, such as pre-pushing key material for VDOs into the P2P network. If you’ve just started Vanish or your system, expect it to be much, much slower.
