How long does it take to do a switchover/failover using Oracle Data Guard?
Fast-Start Failover in Oracle Database 10g Release 2 can be accomplished in a few seconds. For manual failover and switchover operations, the role transition may take a bit longer. Note that while Data Guard ensures that the database failover/switchover operations complete quickly, customers have to pay close attention to how the applications / clients failover across sites once the database-level role transition is complete.
