How long does it take to complete CP?
This process varies depending on the country workload at the consulate and time of year but routinely takes 6 to 12 months. The time varies largely depending on whether visa processing will be completed at a U.S. Consular Post designated by the U.S. Department of State as an “Appointment Review Post” or “Standard Review Post”. Appointment review posts are those where the NVC performs document review, security checks, or IV appointment scheduling. Standard review posts are those where the NVC does not collect document or schedule IV appointments. Initially, the CIS must first approve the Immigrant Visa Petition and then forward it to the NVC. This can take time and has nothing to do with how long actual CP will take. Once the NVC has the case, a series of events will happen.
