How long does it take to become proficient in implementing the SIOP Model?
Research on the SIOP Model shows that it takes teachers at least a year to become high implementers in the model. However, the quality of the school’s SIOP Model professional development plan can have a significant impact on a teacher’s acquisition and understanding of the model. Professional development plans that incorporate coaching in the SIOP Model, lesson study, or SIOP study groups can jump-start a teacher’s implementation.
