How long does it take to become fluent in American Sign Language?
It depends on the individual. Language fluency requires extensive time, study, immersion in the language community, and constant practice. After taking the two language classes that are prerequisites for acceptance into the DSP, you should be able to handle communication of simple concepts of daily life. True mastery of the language will most likely take years.
