How long does it take to become a funeral director?
Hi, in answer to your question, there is only one school in your state that has a national board recognized program and that is Piedmont Technical in Greenwood. There are not very many schools in the country that offer mortuary science. Piedmont, along with most other schools, offers a two-year Associate’s Degree program in mortuary science, which at the end of, you will be licensed to be a funeral director. You will also need to complete an apprenticeship for embalming if you choose that route. You will be in school for about 2 years and one summer. If you want to take this fall to get some pre-reqs, usually taking an english class, like english comp is good, also take anatomy and physiology (preferrably the 4 credit one), a computer applications class, and probably a business accounting class, if you can. those are pretty much staple requirements in any mortuary science program. Check with Piedmont’s website and requirements though. If Piedmont isn’t a possibility for you for any time
