How long does it take for paint to dry?

Times will vary on conditions such as temperature, humidity and ventilation. Generally at 70-75 degrees and 50 pct. humidity: Latex wall paints: 1 hr. to touch, 4 hours to re-coat, up to two weeks to fully cure (i.e. if you want to wash the walls, or place something against it or on it if shelving) Oil paints: 4-6 hours to dry, 24 hours to re-coat. Re-coating oil too quickly can result in what is called solvent trapping as the solvents continue to evaporate and are trapped by the top layer resulting in “fish eyes”, little voids or pits in the paint that are caused by the solvents forcing themselves through the top layer. This is fairly general as different paints have different guidlines.

It varies from paint to paint, but it should say on the label. However, what the label doesn’t usually tell you is that it generally takes weeks for paint to fully cure.
